What is a bad habit? I would describe a bad habit as any personal action or inaction that keeps us from getting what we really want.
How are bad habits formed? How is any habit formed? The answer is through repetition. Habits are habits because we have conditioned ourselves through repetition. This applies to good and bad habits. We act in habit usually without giving any thought, because we have done it for so long that it is now embedded and driven by our subconscious mind.
Changing bad habits can take anywhere from 3-5 weeks, or in some cases more. We need to consciously decide to do this. First, figure out the habit you want to eliminate. Then figure out the new habit that will take it’s place. Install the new positive habit pattern of thought by repetition. Also, notice the benefits you are getting from the new habit you are creating. Finally, look at the habit you are eliminating and notice what it is about that habit that was limiting your success. Decide to live by the benefits of the new habit and not the limitation of the old habit. Remember, repetition is the key!
Habits are very powerful – so make sure you have good ones that drive your success.
