I love this quote by Beverly Sills, “You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don’t try.”

Fears we have of failing, limit what we will attempt to do. In some cases, they will immobilize us. I want you to think about this. When you fear to do something and not do it at all, won’t this lead to ultimate failure? Even if you attempt to do the thing you fear and you don’t get the result you want, does that mean that you failed? I believe that the answer is yes, if you never try again, but no, if you try again. We have to keep trying until we get the result we want, or something like it. You see, we all succeed in producing a result. No matter if it is the desired result or not. The important thing to remember, is that we can change our approach until we get the desired result.

Thomas Edison, the great inventor, got results that didn’t do what he wanted, but he seemed to do two things with them; a) make the invention useful for something b) never give up until he got the desired result (magic formula).

Don’t be afraid of looking bad or feeling embarrassed of “failing”. If you never try to do the thing you fear, you’ll never get it! That is ultimate failure.

To help you reject the fear that is stopping you, analyze it’s origins. Are your fears true, or just excuses that you have rationalized? Oftentimes we are our own worst enemies. We literally imprison ourselves by the thoughts we think – and those thoughts may not be true at all.

So take a look at your fears and overcome the ones that are holding you prisoner.

“What we seek we shall find; what we flee from flees from us.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
