Why We Don’t Often Get the Goal
On our way to achieving any endeavor or producing successful results in any significant area of our lives, many of us don’t reach those ultimate goals. Why? My research has lead me to understand the reason this happens is that we fail to complete the first step of getting what we want. That all important step, is to clearly identify exactly what we want. That seems like a very simple step, but turns out to be the main reason why we don’t get what we want most of the time. We fail to clearly and fully identify the goal. We may have an idea of what we want, or whish we could do, be, or accomplish something, but we fail to, in detail, describe what the goal is. The funny thing, is that we are pretty awesome at identifying what we don’t want. I don’t want to be late, usually turns into you’re late! I don’t want to feel tired anymore, usually contributes to us fulfilling that unfortunate state. Why does this happen? Fortunately, I have learned that what we focus on most, is what we tend to produce in our lives the most too. So, today, I want to focus on this key area of self improvement. That is, being clear of and identifying exactly what we want in every area of our lives. Then, once that is established, keeping those goals in our focus as often as possible and taking action towards their attainment.
Identify What You Want With Effective Questions
An effective way to identify what you want, is to ask yourself some effective questions. Here are some sample questions that can help: (you can customize them as you see fit)
1) How can I create positive, quality personal relationships with friends and family?
2) What can I do to have an abundance of physical energy and be at my ideal body weight?
3) What are my short term and long term financial goals. What do I need to do to ensure I meet those goals?
4) What is most important to me in my personal and family life?
5) What is most important to me in my career?
6) What is most important to me in my quality of life?
7) What is most important to me in my relationships?
What is most important to me in my day-to-day living?
9) What kind of qualities and skills do I need to master in order to achieve my goals?
10) What obstacles stand in between achieving each goal? What actions can I take to move past the obstacles and achieve my goals?
Sorry for all these questions, but there is a method to this madness. If you are committed to making a positive difference in your life, you need to be clear of what is going to make it happen for you – in all areas of your life. The only way to get the answers, is to ask the questions. There is a secret to life fulfillment. That secret to me is balance. And knowing exactly what we want in each important area of our life, is the first step to that fulfillment. To take it a step further, we should not be discouraged if we do not get what we want. It may just be that it’s not the right time. When you are ready to achieve a goal, you will!
It is very true that we cannot be successful in achieving anything, unless we first know what it is we want to achieve. We need to have a vision of who we want to be, how we want to feel and what will make us happiest of all. Once we are clear, we can take action! Creating the self improvement necessary to become a better friend, a better parent or even a better contributor at your job, is what will help you grow in joy and happiness. I believe that success comes when we positively improve the way we interact with one another.
Final Thoughts
All success begins within. After all, if we are not the ones who have created the quality of life we currently live, then who has? Many people feel that they are controlled by circumstances that they did not create, but as I have witnessed, most negative circumstance are created due to failing to clearly identify the direction we really want to take our lives in. We started driving to the destination with a vague idea of where it is we wanted to go, but forgot that we really needed to be clear of where we wanted to go first. If circumstance have directed your life, could it be that you didn’t decide exactly what you really wanted, and settled into what made you comfortable in various moments of your life? Where has that taken you throughout the years? Most importantly, if you are not happy with who you have become and what you have accomplished, is it too late to change? I believe there are two answers to this question. Yes, if you want to continue in that way. No, if you want to change. The choice is ours to make. So decide what you want – and go for it!
These goals represent the experiences that you feel are part of the “best” life you could live. I don’t mean a good life or even a great life – I mean the best life. If a life where you never traveled through Europe wouldn’t be the absolute best for you, then you’d better include that goal on your list.
Time to face the music armed with this great infroamiton.
